Perhaps it was the change of scenery that pushed the punk out of Crows. Instead of writing their songs in a small East London studio, the British band composed them in the countryside, in a former Catholic church. This may have contributed to why Reason Enough (Bad Vibrations) sounds so restrained and mature.
With the help of Andy Savours, they polished an album that is primarily atmospheric and versatile. Still post-punk, as on their previous two albums, but much less edgy and loud this time.
It’s intense, yes, but also filled with softer, melodic moments. This might be why the album takes a few tracks to really click—it takes a couple of songs to understand what Crows are aiming for.
They gesture, sway, but never lose control. Vision Of Me is interwoven with quiet moments, while Is It Better leans towards pop. You’re gently carried to the beautiful finale with Silhouettes and D-Gent. Suddenly, those 34 minutes have flown by—time for another listen.
