Frankie and the Witch Fingers continue to charge ahead at full speed, cranking out records year after year. ZAM was once their crowning achievement, but in recent outings, the machine seemed to stall a little. Now Trash Classic (Greenway / The Reverberation Appreciation Society) attempts to steer them free with some daring maneuvers.
Call it punk from outer space, high-energy synth psych, or trash garage rock—whatever the name, it crashes gloriously. In true Osees fashion, we plunge headfirst into chaos with plenty of clatter and cosmic babble.
“T.V. Baby” and “Dead Silence” kick things off with promise. The Los Angeles band is in top form—breakneck and insanely catchy. But the trick begins to wear thin as the album progresses.
Their brand of dystopian punk loses some of its edge. “Out Of The Flesh” hints at something more but doesn’t quite deliver. Still, it’s worth sticking around until the end: the title track serves up a spectacular end-times soundtrack. In the end, it’s all worth it.
