Thank you for the earworm, Lambrini Girls! Thankfully, the debut (via City Slang) from this British duo shares little in common with the Baha Men. Instead, it’s a fast-paced, rumbling noise-punk affair, infused with furious shouts tackling socially critical themes.
Produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band—who’s been carving out a reputation for his touch on standout releases lately—the record balances rough edges with a surprisingly pop-forward sound.
The bold track “Big Dick Energy” fits perfectly as a follow-up to an Amyl and the Sniffers song in an indie disco set. It’s also a refreshing change from more monotonous offerings out there. While the songs are undeniably strong, the persistent pounding beats paired with talk-singing can feel a bit repetitive by the end.
That said, skipping the final track would mean missing a highlight: “Cuntology 101” is a surprisingly breezy dance track. Here’s hoping for more of that on their next outing!
