With a fresh drummer in tow, MITRAILLE are driven forward by Arno Sels for their second album. The duo, Dennis Van Hoof and Matthias Roggeman, race ahead with breakneck stunts.
The self-titled work (via Spastic Fantastic / Belly Button / Rockerill / Ronny Rex) starts from a garage punk foundation, venturing into catchier territory. Often, the punk comes off as light and rockish, but at its core, it remains gritty and abrasive.
The delightfully mundane Laundry Tonight reminds us that the punk-star life isn’t always glamorous. The Belgians have a mischievous streak, shaking things up with the hit Good Mornin’ Champ.
Quirky Boring Man, melodic Sick of Me, and frantic, moshy Dead Zone—there’s variety, there’s escalation. What more could you want?
