We Hate You Please Die don’t need hidden messages—their band name says it all. Their sound ranges between furious noise storms and tender indie-pop anthems, with angry, direct shouts accompanying the music.
Chamber Songs (Incisive) once again proves to be a versatile work. The band from France gives us no time to catch our breath, presenting plenty of twists and traps along the way. Right from the opener Adrenaline, we’re thrown into a rollercoaster ride, with the title speaking for itself.
We Hate You Please Die are at their best when they stick to a straightforward path. Take Control, for example, which delivers driving garage rock—and nothing else.
The sequence of Flesh followed by Asshole is also great, as it lets lightness follow heaviness, creating a dramatic arc. The band closes with the post-rock epic Surrender. Now we have a better sense of the state of the world—not a good one, but the soundtrack is quite fitting.
