Erase Errata left a gap for punky, noisy New Wave—one that Nape Neck now seems poised to fill. The Leeds-based band immediately feels familiar, channeling the legendary Californians with shredding, jittery urgency and a hypnotic, cool groove.
Their new self-titled release (via Dot Dash / Red Wig / OCCII) compiles Nape Neck’s two previously released cassettes onto vinyl for the first time, newly mixed and remastered. The result is even more nerve-wracking and expansive.
Nape Neck thrives in jagged post-punk sounds that lean heavily into the off-kilter. Paperweight gets loud in bursts, but otherwise, we’re locked into a steady, hypnotic descent.
If there’s one critique, it might be a lack of variation—but over the album’s runtime, this chaotic brilliance still holds strong.
