The Silverships and their debut EP Kingdom of Decay (Tonzonen / Cargo): Within just a few seconds, you can clearly hear the influence of Queens of the Stone Age. Familiar-sounding songs that aren’t cover versions, but rather draw inspiration from the era of Josh Homme that resulted in Lullabies to Paralyze.
This means: powerful, direct songs with a subtle jam factor and lots of hard rock. The Hamburg-based band does a perfect job of emulating the style while still bringing in fresh ideas. The production also adds to the experience, being as heavy as it could possibly be.
Overall, this is a work for QOTSA fans who have been waiting for a solid album from their heroes for some time. And an album for those who appreciate a more restrained approach to stoner rock. The four tracks on the EP cover everything you could ask for: punchy with Beast, atmospheric with War Is Over, and plenty of punch with the title track and Nevermore.
