Squid’s post-punk has always had an artful edge, reaching a pinnacle with O Monolith in 2023—a complex, multifaceted, and somewhat weightier work.
Now, with Cowards (Warp) set for release on February 7, the British band’s third album promises an even broader canvas, as suggested by the first single, “Crispy Skin.” Tackling themes of cannibalism, the track veers into chamber pop, with a full roster of guests—from classical composers to punk rockers.
The high artistry continues with the music video by Takashi Ito, which reinterprets his 1995 experimental film Zone.
