What began as a bedroom project during the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved into Germinator, a band now presenting their self-titled debut album. Entirely DIY, yet far from LoFi.
The fuzz hits hard and thick, with nuanced, shimmering psychedelic touches. This is vibrant garage rock that equally reveres both pop and sludge.
The Australian band has a distinctly Californian sound. Within seconds, the usual suspects from Los Angeles and San Francisco come to mind. Still, Germinator carves their own path with this debut album.
It feels like a flashback to the early 2010s, when every garage rock band was digging out old Sabbath records. However, these Australians add a knack for crafting irresistibly sticky anthems.
Take “Follow The Unknown,” for example—powerful, playful, and perfect for shouting along. “Glasshouse” is for the long-haired rockers, while “Window” is for the freshly in love. A lovely album with a nearly retro charm.
