Pedro Pestana (of 10,000 Russos) and Sidney Jaffe (of Arcane Allies, Burnpilot) have crafted two albums under the name Splitterzelle. The previously released Drumhard Sessions Vol. 1 leaned toward hypnotic, handcrafted space rock. Their latest effort, Splitterzelle (Fuzz Club), takes a different approach.
The album is far more techno-influenced, refined, and intricate—simply put, much more effort has gone into the production. Guitar and drums are buried beneath countless layers of sound, occasionally surfacing only to be quickly pushed aside by driving beats.
The opener Golem begins with noise and shoegaze elements, transitioning into pulsing electronic rhythms. The harder and darker Disciple follows suit, while Periphery guides listeners into more relaxed terrain.
Everywhere, bleeps and clatters fill the soundscape, with vocals echoing endlessly into the void. The hypnotic Resilience is a standout in this regard. Overall, this is a techno album with subtle rock underpinnings—a dark and entrancing journey into the shadows of electronic sound.
