For Occult Future (Riot Season), Nolla laid down the foundation in improvised sessions, over which Vest layered his intricate guitar explorations. Once again, we’re dealing with some seriously mind-bending rock.
Vocalist Otto Juutilainen varies his approach, shouting, speaking, and singing, while everything else stays in the same hypnotic flow. It’s a journey of psychedelic rock with cosmic excursions.
Brief variations break the pattern. On “The Adept,” for instance, we experience a dreamy twist, while the closer, “The Living Dream,” holds onto drone. But these small detours don’t disrupt the trance-like state they create.
