The lineup of the Mountain Movers has now solidified. For over a decade, Dan Greene, Rick Omonte, Kryssi Battalene, and Ross Menze have been playing together. Four albums have been released since then, and now their fifth, “Walking After Dark” (Trouble In Mind), is out.
The album brings together different approaches. The Connecticut band is mainly known for their long jams but reverted to snappier folk songs on their 2021 release “World What World.” Here, we get a mix of both.
Long ambient pieces sit alongside elegantly concise songs. For example, “My Holy Shrine” is relaxed and folky, while the following 14-minute “Reclamation Yard” explores minimalist sounds.
“Night Birds In The Trees” is a very sleepy song. Overall, it’s a very leisurely, slow album. The ambient parts can be a bit whiny at times, but never irritating. It might just be the perfect album to unwind.
