After “First Light,” touring, and the Fuzz Club Sessions, Hákon Aðalsteinsson felt it was time to give his project The Third Sound a fresh start. The Berlin-based band has previously thrived on dark psych rock and stoic post-punk. The new album, “Most Perfect Solitude” (Fuzz Club), their sixth overall, does things a bit differently.
The record feels much airier and brighter. It’s filled with songs about travel, hence there’s a certain longing within. It’s about running away and arriving, the passing lights, and the people left behind.
The majority of the album is warm psych rock, beautiful and refined. “Don’t Look Back” tries its hand at the familiar gloomy sounds but feels somewhat isolated. It’s not a purely feel-good record, but certainly the most pleasant offering yet from The Third Sound.
