The new Osees album comes without a concept this time. After detours into electronics and hardcore punk, ABOMINATION REVEALED AT LAST (Deathgod) brings us back to solid, versatile garage rock.
You have to rewind a bit to when John Dwyer’s band had a few more members—and a few more letters in its name. That’s the sound this record taps into.
Added to that are the harsher nuances of the present, which often disrupt the band’s usual woozy sway. After a rushed start, “SNEAKER” unravels. The Osees splice psychedelia with raw punk—a thorny affair that doesn’t go down easily.
“INFECTED CHROME” drifts into jam territory, standing in contrast to the sharp one-minute bursts that thrash ahead recklessly. “COFFIN WAX” recalls Floating Coffin, while “FIGHT SIMULATOR” pulls off a brilliant left turn.
“GLASS WINDOW” leans into drama, leading into the strange closer “GLITTER-SHOT”, full of references and fragments. Osees in 2025: even harder to pin down.
