For their ten-year anniversary, Erika Switchblade and Lazy Blacula are looking back at their roots. What shaped the sound of The Devils? What were—and still are—their biggest influences? Blues and soul, of course, and on their sixth album, these elements are generously mixed into their signature garage rock.
Devil’s Got It (Cleopatra / Go Down) is a covers album. If you’re going to pay tribute to your influences, why not go all in? That seems to be The Devils’ approach. Once again, Alain Johannes takes on production duties, adding a touch of desert dust to the mix.
The result? A record that hums, crashes, and drifts with heavy, rumbling energy—Stoner Garage Rock, if you will. But there are some standout detours along the way, like the driving harmonica on Come Love or the hazy, atmospheric sway of Help Me Through the Day.
