The trad wife trend—being the perfect partner for a man. Cooking, cleaning, and, of course, plenty of sex to keep him happy. Not exactly a common theme in punk music—until now. MÉNADES tackle it head-on with their fantastic debut album, Sur Leurs Cendres (Le Cèpe).
Their track Good Partner drips with bored sarcasm, making it an absolute delight. It comes wrapped in off-kilter post-punk, though the French band doesn’t stick to just one style, blending in garage and indie rock as well.
Comparisons to IDLES and Amyl & The Sniffers make sense—their raw energy and sharp edges are definitely there. But MÉNADES aren’t afraid to slow things down for more emotional moments, especially in the album’s closing tracks.
There’s plenty of high-energy punk, but the real highlight is the sleek Angels Drive Fast, a track that fuses psychedelia with urgency. A bold, dynamic album—hopefully just the beginning.
