Weird Omen—the constant force in France’s garage rock scene—have been at it for over a decade now. Their releases arrive at regular intervals, and they rarely miss the mark. Blood (Beast Records) is no exception.
The band doesn’t reinvent itself here but continues to push its sound further. For the most part, they stick to their raw, primitive garage rock, often driven by an overblown saxophone. Yet, there are still discoveries to be made.
Take the powerhouse opener, I Wanna—right away, you know this one’s going to be sweaty and relentless. As the album unfolds, Weird Omen occasionally weave in a touch of effortless catchiness.
The standout track is I Can Stand It—a sprawling, psychedelic number once again carried by that pulsing sax. All in all, another safe bet.
