After Saba Lou, the second daughter of King Khan is now also venturing into a music career. Bella Khan appears under the name Bella and the Bizarre, and their debut album has just been released via In The Red.
The influence of her father is clearly noticeable here. We get soulful garage punk, rough yet full of emotion. It’s important to note that this is not a criticism; it’s a very beautiful album.
Sixties rock shines through as the band from Berlin heads towards the gritty club scene. There’s a lot of catchiness in these often quite fast-paced songs.
At times, Bella’s vocals can get a bit overdriven, almost tipping over. This can be a bit intense, but it doesn’t detract from the songs where she’s more in the spotlight. So, just a minor flaw.
“Oh So Many Ways” and “Don’t You Wait” take a more restrained, dreamy approach. With “Unleashed Mind,” there’s also a really cool rock number. Overall, it’s a listenable and enjoyable album.
Bella and the Bizarre – Bella and the Bizarre: Still a bit lacking in its own identity, but definitely a solid piece of garage punk. – RIFL
