Collectives often have many voices, making it hard to find a unified direction. Now, YAR from Paris are giving it a shot. HYSTERESIS (Le Cèpe) is their first, fairly concise result.
Something between post-punk and indie rock, with layered vocals—not quite Kim Gordon/Thurston Moore, though Tara Clamart comes close to that style.
There’s a clear taste of ‘90s riot music throughout. You can hear it in the yearning chime of “Inside A Dream” and the hazy “White Flag.” Then there’s the frenetic punk of “Waste,” often dark, sometimes even poppy.
There are definitely some good tracks here; YAR still needs to find a common thread to pull together, but they’re working hard to get there.
