Just over two years ago, four bands from the realms of space, kraut, and psych rock came together for the mini-compilation “International Space Station.” Now, the second installment has been released via Worst Bassist / Echodelick / Weird Beard.
Once again, four bands, mainly from German-speaking countries, each take over one side of the LP. Staying true to the spacey theme, they deliver weightless, instrumental psych rock. For those who enjoy this style of music, it’s a no-brainer.
All the contributions are top-notch. Verstärker from Kentucky kick off with their “Weltraumtraum,” starting with a sense of urgency that then evolves into heavy rock. Their track “Kvant” delves into buzzing drone.
Germany’s Neo-Krautrockers Kombynat Robotron begin with bass-dominated grooves, then gradually dissolve into infinity. Austria’s Speck jams their way to ecstatic heights on “Flaniergang” without losing their grounding. Their second contribution, “Bes, so bes,” takes a much harsher turn.
Finally, Sarkh from Germany closes out the session. They skillfully navigate between lightness and heaviness, wrapping up the compilation on a high note.
