For over two decades, The Janitors have been playing their droning psych rock. In the “Noisolation Sessions,” the Swedes described a decaying world. On “An Error Has Occurred” (Rocket Recordings), the situation hasn’t improved.
“Everything is fucked,” and here’s our middle finger. Especially in the first half, the psych rock is as loud as ever and quickly veers into noise. The slow-burning “Anger The World,” for instance, escalates to an extreme degree.
The Janitors essentially offer everything one might expect from a psych rock album: flowing drift, wavering jams, and the right amount of grip at the perfect moment.
“In A Bliss” then introduces brighter sounds, signaling a small paradigm shift. Ultimately, though, the Janitors can’t help but return to their hard drone roots. It’s a moody, dark, and gripping album that ends meditatively with “Farewell Spacegirl.”
