Wow, it seems like France is currently buzzing with space-rocking power trios. The latest introduction: KALAC from Dinan. With “ODYSSÉE” (Crème Brûlée / Clostridium / Weirdbeard / Echodelick), their debut album is now available.
KALAC delves into captivating psych rock with space and krautrock elements. Their sound is constantly evolving, transitioning smoothly between moments of tranquility and explosive bursts. While bands like KARKARA or SLIFT come to mind, KALAC also exhibits a unique identity of their own.
Their epic, lengthy songs are mostly instrumental, allowing the music to speak volumes. They traverse relaxed territories but aren’t afraid to venture into darker realms, as heard on “II,” where krautrock takes a sinister turn.
“Conscience” stands out with its raw and direct approach. Overall, it’s a very cohesive album that creates an incredible gravitational pull. The title track serves as a major highlight, but there’s plenty of equally impressive material throughout. Yet another fantastic band from France.
